Dear citizens! We have good news, Bishkek has joined the global campaign for Making Cities Resilient to Disasters by 2030, supported by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNODRR) and the European Union.

On the eve, the Hyatt Regency Bishkek hotel hosted an introductory meeting of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Disaster Resilience Assessment and Local Strategy Development.

Representatives from urban service leaders and UNISDR representatives participated and we learned about disaster risk reduction concepts in urban settings and explored ways to use campaign tools and approaches to make communities more resilient to disasters. A work plan for future action was also discussed.

As a reminder, the Bishkek Mayor's Office created a technical working group to conduct a sustainability assessment, which will lay the groundwork for a local disaster risk reduction strategy and approaches to safe urban development, with environmentally friendly development, improved conditions for the well-being and health of Bishkek residents.
